This engraving shows a Dutch fleet attacking the Spanish fortress of Gratiosa on Gran Canaria. This engraving was first published in Johann Theodore de Bry's America das ist Erfindung und Offenbahrung der Newen Welt, published by Philip Zigler in 1617, which was an abridgement of the first nine parts of Theodore de Bry's Grands Voyages. This example was published in Matthaus Merian's Newe Welt und Americanishe Historien. On a sheet of German text measuring 8.0 x 13.5".
