A. Ortelius Atlas Maps - An Illustrated Guide, by Marcel P.R. van den Broecke, published 1996 (5.3 x 9.7"). This book by Marcel van den Broecke provides information on the maps which were included in the first regular atlas that ever appeared, Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. It is the standard reference for Ortelius's maps. Includes black and white images of each of the maps discussed. 8vo, hardbound in blue cloth with gilt titles on front cover and spine and an illustrated dust jacket.

B. Abraham Ortelius and the First Atlas - Essays Commemorating the Quadricentennial of His Death 1598-1998, by Marcel van den Broecke, Peter van der Krogt, and Peter Meurer, published 1998 (9.6 x 12.1"). This collection of essays was assembled in 1998 to commemorate the four hundredth anniversary of Ortelius' death. It was edited by Marcel van den Broecke, Peter van der Krogt, and Peter Meurer. The essays were written by more than twenty contributors and cover such subjects as the printer Christopher Plantin, specific maps within the Theatrum, and Ortelius' wall maps, title pages, and travels. The appendices include a chronological list of the editions of both the Theatrum and the Epitome, a list of the plates used in the Theatrum,and an extensive bibliography. This is a superb reference for any collector of Ortelius' maps or anyone wishing to delve deeper into the history of cartography. Lavishly illustrated in color and black-and-white. 432 pages. Hardbound in red cloth with gilt-lettered spine and a colored portrait and title page on the front and back covers.
