This handsome limited edition facsimile of John Speed's landmark 1676 English atlas is published in full folio size. It includes the 67 maps of The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain as well as the 28 maps of A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World, among them Speed's maps of the world, America, New England, and Virginia. Title page and frontispiece are in full color, while the maps are in black & white. The atlas was reproduced from a copy in the private collection of Mrs. K.M. Hales. Published by Jonathan Potter Ltd. in association with Drayton Manor Publishing. This facsimile is rarely seen on the market. #19 of 600 and one of just 150 copies to be bound in half-leather. Bound in red cloth and half-leather with gilt title on spine and gilt portrait of Speed on the front cover. Top edge gilt. Fits into matching red cloth slipcase.

Condition: A

Contents are very clean and tight with a bit of cockling in the first few and last few pages of the volume. Binding is excellent with a few minor scratches on the rear cover and the corners of slipcase are slightly bumped.
