"Hind, Hindoostan, or India By L.S. de la Rochette", Wyld, James

A large and very finely engraved map depicting the whole Indian continent including Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The map provides excellent details of the topography, settlements and roads. It is colored to depict the British possessions (red), regions under British protection (orange), and independent territory (green). A jungle scene with an elephant surrounds the title cartouche at bottom and the distances scales are enclosed in a scroll-style cartouche at top.

Contemporary color with light offsetting and minor staining. There are short fold separations confined to the side margins that have been closed on verso with archival tissue.
