A very large and robust map on two sheets, which would measure approximately 34.8 x 24.4" if joined. Covers all of Europe to the Caspian Sea and the Urals in the north, and extends to show part of North America. Very decorative and large title cartouches. An engraved vignette north of Scandinavia shows whalers harpooning a whale from rowboats. Each sheet stands on its own with full borders and a title cartouche. A very stunning example of the mapmaker's art.

Vincenzo Coronelli was Italy's most esteemed cartographer and globe-maker. A member of the Franciscan order, he also founded the society Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti. Coronelli's Atlante Veneto, a compendium of geographical and scientific knowledge in twelve massive volumes, included this magnificent map.
