Three very early maps of Albuquerque including:

A. Plat of the Town of Albuquerque Grant in Bernalillo County New Mexico..., dated 1883, black & white (18.2 x 14.6"). Surveyed by John Shaw, this map shows the town of Albuquerque along with the new settlements of Plaza and New Albuquerque. The Rio Grande is prominently depicted as is the township & range pattern of the public land survey system. A small table at right indicates the grant for the town was approved on September 5, 1882 - only two years before this map was produced.

B. Plat of the Town of Albuquerque Tract Accompanying the Petition of the Inhabitants of the Town for the Confirmation of Their Lands and Commons, black & white (5.1 x 5.1"). This small map shows the town with a number of additions noted, including Stover, Perea, and Highland. The map also locates several early roads and the New Mexico & Southern Pacific Railway.

C. Map Showing Four Leagues as Claimed by Original Petitioners, printed color (5.1 x 5.1"). This is essentially the same map as above but color-coded to show Albuquerque proper (red) and those areas claimed by other land owners (blue, yellow and green). The request of the town to acquire additional lands was denied based on a finding that the original town was settled on individual and not communal land.
