This survey was made shortly after Texas declared its Independence in 1835 and appears to have been the basis for a more detailed survey accomplished in 1840 to determine the eastern boundary of Texas. It covers a 300 mile stretch of the river from the town of Sabine to Sabine Lake and the Gulf of Mexico with copious notations describing both the river and surrounding land. The map was issued as part of Major W.G. Belknap's 3-page report (not present) to the Secretary of War.
