A. The Mapping of Australia, by R.V. Tooley, published 1979, black & white (7.6 x 10.0"). This reference is essential for collectors of maps of Australia. It provides a historical account of the mapping of Australia, showing its evolution throughout the centuries. Essays on maps of Australia during the Dutch Period, foreign maps of Australia, the printed maps of New South Wales, maps of Tasmania, and the French mapping of New Zealand are included. There is also a helpful alphabetical list of the 1560 maps in the National Library of Canberra. 633 pp., 239 plates. This is the first edition without the material on the early mapping of Antarctica. Hardbound in green cloth with an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Contents are good with minor toning. Covers have light shelf wear. The dust jacket is lightly soiled with a dampstain along the bottom and a tear along the spine at bottom that has been closed with tape. (B+)

B. The Discovery of Australia - The Charts and Maps of the Navigators and Explorers, by T.M. Perry, published 1982, printed color (10.6 x 14.4"). T.M. Perry's terrific reference is filled with large illustrations, many in color, of the important maps of discovery of Australia. The book includes reproductions of the works of Blaeu, Mercator, Ortelius, Hondius, Jansson, Visscher, Goos, Thevenot, Arrowsmith, Cook, and many others. Hard bound with illustrated dust jacket, 159 pages, index, list of plates. Condition: Contents are near fine. Covers have very minor shelf wear, and the dust jacket is lightly soiled. (A)
