The copper engravings from A New, Authentic and Complete Collection of Voyages Round the World…Complete Historical Account of Captain Cook's First, Second, Third and Last Voyages… Edited by George William Anderson and published by Alexander Hogg in London, 1784-86. Cook's discoveries in the Pacific formulate the final chapter in 18th Century exploration. These engravings provide a delightful view of the discoveries, people and customs of the Pacific region.

This is the German edition of this sheet presenting three early maps from the explorations of Capt. Cook in New Zealand. The main chart depicts Cook’s discoveries of Mercury Bay and the Hauraki Bay at Auckland, New Zealand with soundings, anchorages, and other navigational data. The two smaller charts show ‘Pte. Pocock’, just north of Whangarei, and ‘Baye de Tolaga’, north of Gisborne. Includes alternate German titles and place names. Engraved by J.D. Philipp and published in a German edition of Hawkesworth's Voyages Around the World Undertaken by the Order of His Present Majesty...

Condition: B+

A crisp impression issued folding on a sheet with a Strasbourg bend and lily watermark. There is faint offsetting, light scattered foxing at top, and a binding trim at left with an associated tear that enters into 0.5" into the map image.
