This uncommon map of the British Isles depicts the Roman tribes, towns, and ancient divisions. It was engraved by Melchior Tavernier. Curiously, there is no engraved border on the right. The title is enclosed in a lovely strapwork cartouche. Originally published in Cartes Generales de Toutes les Parties du Monde…, the map, like many of Sanson's works, appeared in a number of bound collections of maps by French cartographers.
