This is a reprint of Thian's reference on U.S. military geography, first published in 1881. Thian sought to record the evolution of the Army's command structure. His work is organized into three parts: "Part I. - Military divisions, districts, departments, and reconstruction districts, giving date of creation, commanders and geographical boundaries;" Part II. - States and Territories of the United States, giving military departments or district in which embraced;" and "Part III. - List of maps to compose the military atlas of the United States." Utley. 203 pp. Hardbound in blue cloth with gilt tiles on cover and spine. Condition: Contents are clean and tight. Corners are slightly bumped, and there is minor shelf wear.
