This is an uncommon map focused on the Philippines. It provides nice detail of the islands and is decorated with a compass rose and a delicately engraved title cartouche. The disputed territory Panacot (Scarborough Shoal) is depicted off the coast of Luzon. After Admiral Cornish's capture of Manila in 1762, there was an increase in British interest in the cartography of the Philippines. This map was published in Tobias George Smollett's Continuation of the History of England, his extension of David Hume's Complete History of England.
