NO RESERVE - Official Boy Scout Map

"An American Legacy...National Wildlife Refuges",

This unusual map was issued in the April 1957 edition of Boy's Life magazine, the official publication of the Boy Scouts of America. Keyed to the map are the names of seventy three designated wildlife refuges with lovely illustrations of wildlife filling the interior including moose, bison, deer, and numerous waterfowl species. Text below the map states that "during April, when the Boy Scout theme is in the field of fish and game conservation, it would be especially appropriate for troops to visit a state or national refuge." The National Wildlife Refuge designation began in 1903 by Theodore Roosevelt and has grown from 270 refuges at the time of this publication to 568 today. The verso contains a cartoon of "Pee Wee Harris" and other activities to keep a boy's mind engaged.
