A. Oregon. Memorial of Citizens of the United States, Residing in the Territory of Oregon, Praying for the Establishment of a Distinct Territorial Government, to Embrace Oregon and Its Adjacent Sea Coasts, &c., from H.R. Doc. 3, 29th Congress, 1st Session, published 1845. This 5 page document is an impassioned appeal to establish a government in Oregon Country. The authors emphasize the commercial opportunities and the threat from “a haughty government, on a foreign continent, [that] asserts her right to possess herself of Oregon,” while discounting its inaccessibility, e.g. “The Rocky Mountains are but the ridge of a double inclined plane of gradual assent, presenting in themselves little more obstruction than a cornfield…” Disbound. Condition: A few spots of foxing. (B+)

B. Protection Afforded by Volunteers of Oregon and Washington Territories to Overland Emigrants in 1854. Papers Transmitted by the Secretary of Oregon Territory..., from H.R. Doc. 47, 35th Congress, 2nd Session, published 1859. This 61 page report includes papers related to the defense of settlers against Indian hostilities and first-hand reports on the Rogue River Wars. Disbound. Condition: Near fine. (A)
