This decorative map shows the Bishopric of Eichstatt, a small ecclesiastical principality of the Holy Roman Empire, located in present-day Bavaria. It extends from Nuremberg south to Ingolstadt. Forests, rolling countryside, mountains, and other topographical details are graphically depicted. Political divisions, towns and cities, and rivers are identified. The map is filled out with stunning ornamental elements, including a heavenly vignette at top, a distance scale cartouche at bottom right featuring two putti with surveying equipment, and a title cartouche at bottom left with a religious theme. Beneath the title cartouche is a view of the town of Eichstatt on the Altmuhl River, complete with the Willibaldsburg castle, the seat of the bishopric's bishop-princes.
