This stunning map is one of four maps of the Burgundy region included in the Theatrum. This map features the Dukedom of Burgundy, which is present-day Cote d'Or with its fabulous vineyards. Locates the cities of Verdun, Chatillon, Montbard, Dijon, Beaune, Chalon, Tournus, Autun, and Saulieu. Embellished with a large strapwork title cartouche with a coat of arms, an equally decorative scale of miles and surrounded in a bold and handsome border. French text on verso, published in 1598.

References: Van den Broecke #54.

Condition: A

A nice impression on a bright sheet with the crossed arrows watermark commonly found on Ortelius maps. There is some minor rippling of the paper, a small area of paper weakness in the right blank margin, and light toning along the edges of the sheet.
