Rare "Lap Map" Air Navigation Map

"Amman to El Jid",

This fascinating and rare air navigation map details the middle portion of the route from Cairo, Egypt to Baghdad, Iraq. Known as a "lap map," this map traces the air route from Amman, Jordan to Al Jid (Abar al Jidd), Iraq. The map, which was typically carried on the pilot's lap, is filled with navigation details, including the air route, the ground route, distances between each segment, ground marks and terrain visible by air, aerodromes, and the altitude above sea level at various locations. Based on a 1921 survey of the area and printed by the Survey of Egypt. Backed in old linen.

This map was clearly used in air navigation and has old folds, pencil notations, moderate soiling, a damp stain at bottom left. and some chips confined to the blank margins.
