"Regni Hispaniae Post Omnium Editiones Locupleissima Descriptio", Ortelius, Abraham

This is a very attractive map of the Iberian peninsula surrounded by stipple engraved seas, in which there are ships and sea monsters. The land is full of cities, mountains and forests. A large strapwork title cartouche and scale of miles with a divider ornament the map. Spanish text on verso with page number 16, published circa 1609.

Full contemporary color on a lightly toned sheet with a number of small centerfold separations that have been skillfully repaired on verso with archival materials. There is some cracking due to the oxidation of the green pigment primarily around the title cartouche that has been repaired with tissue on verso. A 0.5" x 4" strip along the lower centerfold has been professionally replaced in facsimile.
