This fine map of Italy includes the islands of Corsica, Sardinia, and part of Sicily, as well as the western coast of Croatia. Italy is filled with towns, lakes, rivers and mountains. The map is handsomely adorned with sailing ships, sea monsters, Neptune and Salacia, and a wolf suckling Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome, whose portraits are also included in the distance scale below. Latin text on verso.

Condition: B

A dark impression with full contemporary color that has been partially refreshed, light toning along the centerfold, and some staining and foxing. There are archival repairs to a tiny hole adjacent to the ship along the centerfold and to a short crack below the wolf. This map will ship flat.
