Matched Set of Ruth White Hawaii Maps
"[Lot of 4] Island of Maui [and] Island of Hawaii [and] Island of Kauai [and] Island of Oahu", White, Ruth Taylor
Period: 1935 (circa)
Color: Printed Color
14.8 x 11.3 inches
37.6 x 28.7 cm
These very colorful and decorative maps showing the four main islands of Hawaii are drawn in a whimsical, humorous style much like Jo Mora's celebrated work of the same period. Cartoonish characters populate each with major roads and points of interest noted, which actually make them fairly useful maps for the tourist. Each has a ribbon title banner and a descriptive cartouche. Issued by the Hawaii Tourist Bureau. Blank versos. Size varies slightly.
Vivid color on bright sheets that have been folded at center with tiny pinholes in the corners of the map border. The island of Hawaii map has remnants of cello tape in the bottom corners of the sheet just entering the border. The maps of Maui and Oahu have short edge tears confined to the top blank margin.
