A. A Book of Old Maps Delineating American History from the Earliest Days Down to the Close of the Revolutionary War, by Emerson D. Fite and Archibald Freeman, (10.1 x 14.5"). An excellent study of American cartographic developments in 74 selected maps made between 1474 and 1825. These maps provide a unique view of an important stage in the growth of America. Each map has an accompanying essay describing its background and historical importance. Illustrated in black and white, 299 pages, hardbound with gilt title on spine and an illustrated dust jacket protected by Mylar. Compiled and edited by Emerson D. Fite & Archibald Freeman, Arno Press, New York, 1969. Reprint of the Harvard University Press edition of 1926. Condition: Contents are very good with minor toning along the edges. Covers are near fine. Dust jacket is price clipped with light shelf wear and some small chips and tears.

B. The Discovery of North America - A Critical, Documentary, and Historic Investigation..., by Henry Harisse, (7.0 x 9.9"). This is a reprint of Henry Harrisse's extensive textual history of early explorations across the Atlantic and early cartography of North America, originally published in Paris in 1892. An important reference for any library. Hardbound in black cloth. Published in Amsterdam by N. Israel. 802 pages, illustrated with maps, including 5 in a pocket attached to the inside of the back cover. Condition: Contents good with minor toning and a hint of soiling along the edges. Covers are lightly sunned and soiled with minor shelf wear. The folding maps in the back of the book are lightly toned along the edges.
