This handsome map of ancient Crete is based on the map by Ortelius that he compiled from classical and contemporary sources. The mythical labyrinth of the Minotaur is located near present-day Gournia. The map is decorated with a variety of ships, a sea monster, two compass roses, and three strapwork cartouches. Blank verso, published in Pieter de Hondt's Description Exacte de l'Univers, ou l'Ancienne Geographie Sacree et Profane, a French edition of Georgius Hornius' Accuratissima Orbis Antiqui Delineatio, which included maps from Johannes Jansson's historical atlas and Abraham Ortelius' Parergon.
