Most of the state maps are from east of the Mississippi River, but the book also features maps of Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Texas, and an updated map of California. The map of the United States shows a large Nebraska Territory (encompassing present-day Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska), and Kansas, Indian, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon and Washington territories. Full calf, 8vo, 384 pages. This edition has an additional 25 pages from the 1851 edition, with revised maps. Double-page maps are printed on two sheets.
