This handsome sheet features a large map of Crete above ten inset maps of other Aegean Islands below. Includes Metellino (Mitiline, Lesbos), Cerigo (Kithira), Scarpanto (Karpathos), Nicsia (Naxos), Santorini (Thira), Milo (Milos), Stalimene (Lemnos), Negroponte (Euboea), Rodus (Rhodos), and Scio (Chios). Each is beautifully engraved to simulate the sea and to show the major ports, cities and fortifications. French text on verso.

Condition: A

A dark impression on a clean, bright sheet with the crossed arrows watermark commonly found on Ortelius maps. There is a manuscript page number below the map at right and minor toning along the edges of the sheet.
