Scarce and superb map of this historic region based on the cartography of Ortelius. Graphically engraved to illustrate the forested land with a few cities and ancient place names taken from classical sources. The map is elaborately adorned with three cartouches, a sailing ship, and a flirtatious scene of peasants. Latin text on verso. Published in Petrus Bertius' Theatrum Geographiae Veteris…, which included maps by Mercator, Ortelius, and newly engraved maps by Pieter van den Keere.

References: Van der Krogt (Vol. I) #3000H:364.

A dark impression with an archivally repaired tear that enters 1" into image at bottom near the centerfold, light toning along the edges of the sheet, and very narrow side margins, as issued.
