A. The Mapping of America, published 1980, black & white (7.5 x 9.9"). An excellent reference work detailing the cartographic history of North America. There are essays on French mapping of the Americas, California as an island, Smith's map of Virginia and its many derivatives, marine surveys of James Cook, City Plans, Jansson-Visscher maps of New England, mapping the Great Lakes, maps of America in various editions of Ortelius' Theatrum, and more. Volume 2 in the Holland Press Cartographia series, 519 pp., with 179 uncolored illustrations. First edition, hard bound in green buckram. Condition: Text is very good with minor cockling near the front of the book. Covers are slightly worn with several spots and stains. (B+)

B. Maps and Map-Makers, published 1970, printed color (7.5 x 10.1"). This is the fourth edition of this standard work for any collector's library. It provides information on the principal map makers and publishers throughout the history of cartography. 140 pp. with 104 illustrations, many colored. Hardbound in orange cloth with dust jacket. Condition: Text is slightly toned with a few dog-eared pages and a couple detached pages. Hinge is starting and text block is loosening. Covers have light shelf wear along the edges, and the dust jacket has a number of stains and tears. (B)
