"A New Map of Greece, Constructed Chiefly from Original Materials, in Which It Has Been Attempted to Improve the Ancient and Modern Geography of That Country", Wyld, James
Period: 1827 (dated)
Color: Hand Color
24.3 x 36.6 inches
61.7 x 93 cm
A handsome and beautifully engraved copper plate map of Greece that identifies both ancient and modern cities within the well-developed, rugged topography. Includes a nicely detailed Isle of Candia (Crete) and three distance scales. Wyld assumed management of Faden's establishment in 1823, so this is an early reissue.
Original outline color with faint offsetting. There are a few fold separations that have been repaired on verso with archival materials, and the top margin is a little narrow with a few minor edge chips. Issued folding and dissected with original linen at right.
