Waghenaer's Mariners Mirrour is widely considered to be a groundbreaking achievement in hydrographic publication as it combines the sea-atlas with the coastal pilot, creating a marriage of two vital sources of marine navigation into a single, accurate, and systematic guide to coastal navigation. The maps featured in this book are among the finest examples of copperplate engraving, and are elaborately executed and embellished with ornamental cartouches, elaborate compass roses, ships, sea monsters, etc." Bibliographical introduction by R.A. Skelton. First edition. Third Series, Volume Two of "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum; Series of Atlases in Facsimile." Two parts in one volume, 232 pages, including 45 double-page engraved charts. Folio, hardbound in green linen with gilt insignia on front and gilt and black title on spine, with dust jacket.
