Further out in the bay are numerous ships of both European and Asian design, reflecting the city's status as an important trading center. The view was included in volume 8 of the French translation of Isaac Commelin's compilation of Dutch expeditions, translated by Rene Augustin Constantin De Renneville and published under the title: Recueil des Voyages qui Ont Servi a l'Establissement et aux Progrez de la Compagnie des Indes Orientales Formee dans les Provinces-Unies des Pais-Bas.
