An uncommon map of Patagonia, southern Chile, and Tierra del Fuego. Buenos Aires and the mouth of the La Plata are in the northernmost part of the map. The Andes are shown pictorially, and eleven volcanoes are noted and named. The Desaguadero River is located, showing a tentative watershed and lake. The title cartouche is festooned with fruit amidst rococo curves. This map is quite rare as it was not included in Sanson's Cartes Generales de Toutes les Parties du Monde until the 1670 edition.

References: Pastoureau, SANSON V E [217].

Condition: B+

A nice impression with original outline color in the map and later color in the cartouche, on paper with a large, coat of arms watermark. There is minor toning along the centerfold, a few faint spots in the image, and light toning along the edges of the sheet.
