First state of this attractive map of the southern part of the continent and Madagascar with an inset of the Horn of Africa (Cote d' Ajan). Without a great amount of detail except the names of numerous tribes. Lake Malawi is shown as an elongated lake named Grand Lac Marari. The title cartouche is surrounded by jungle. Map engraved by E. Dussy and cartouche engraved by Arrivet.

Condition: A

A crisp impression with original color in the map and later color in the cartouche on paper with an "IV" watermark. There are some small worm holes confined to the far blank margins.
