A. The Rising Sun Spreads Its Rays, published 1941 (14.4 x 21.3"). This map shows the extent of Japan's influence in the region with Korea, Taiwan, and portions of mainland China under Japanese control. Circles are drawn on the map identifying the "effective bombing radius" for areas just outside of Japanese control including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Guam. A legend at right identifies naval bases, air bases, and colonial control. Issued in the March 30, 1941 issue of the Sunday Times. The verso contains numerous illustrations and advertisements. Condition: A colorful example that is moderately toned with a number of small tears and fold separations that have been repaired on verso with both archival hinge tape and tissue. A number of small edge tears are confined to the blank margins. (B)

B. China Front, published 1945 (20.6 x 14.2"). This map, published four years later on July 29, 1945, "gives you a close-up of the section of China where the Japs have been having plenty of trouble." It extends from Japan west to Szechuan province in China and south to the Philippines. A legend identifies U.S. air bases, naval bases, and principal roads and railroads. The verso contains numerous illustrations and advertisements. Condition: A clean and colorful example with no tears or separations. (A)
