This striking view depicts the Dardanelles leading to the Sea of Marmara, with Constantinople (Istanbul) in the background. Chateau Neuf d'Europe and Chateau Neuf d'Asie are depicted on either side of the Hellespont, with a naval battle in between, representing the struggle for control over the region. The ruins of Troy are depicted at bottom right. Nicolas de Fer held the title of Geographer at Louis XIV's court. He was one of the most prolific publishers of plans of European cities in the late seventeenth century.
