A handsome map showing the Russian Empire just after the death of Peter the Great in 1725, to whom the map is dedicated in his "immortal memory." The title cartouche features Peter the Great emerging from the clouds with his subjects paying their respects and making offerings. The map is filled with details of cities and camps, depicted with miniature castles and tents, respectively. The rivers, mountains, and lakes are shown, including Lake Baikal which incorrectly stretches east-west. Novaya Zemlya is given an enlarged, rounded shape, with a note questioning whether or not the island is inhabited. Kamchatka is also oversized, extending south to Japan. Numerous short notes are included throughout.
