An informative biography covering Fremont's childhood, four expeditions, and his time as a senator. The second and third chapters are directly from Fremont and "gives, with the accompanying illustrations, a perfectly authentic account - as good as can be found - of the interior of the North American continent, its great features, and the races that occupy it." This book features a beautifully engraved frontispiece portrait and several additional engravings to illustrate the volume. Published by Ticknor and Fields in Boston. 356 pages, 12mo, hardbound in blind-stamped green cloth with gilt title on spine.
Text is very good with occasional light scattered foxing and a few stains. Binding is somewhat shaken. The covers are stained with bumped edges, and the spine is sunned.
