A. The Description of the Holy Land Conteining the Places Mentioned in the Foure Evangelists..., by Christopher Barker, circa 1599 (4.9 x 4.1"). This little map is from the 1599 edition of the Geneva Bible printed by Christopher Barker. It covers the region from Sidon to Gaza, and identifies numerous towns and villages with tiny buildings. The map is decorated by two sailing ships in the Mediterranean. On a full sheet measuring 6.0 x 8.2" with related text on verso. Reference: Nebenzahl (Holy Land) p. 105. Condition: Overall light toning with a few faint damp stains outside the map image.

B. The Forty Years Travels of the Children of Israel; Out of Egypt Through the Red Sea, and the Wildernesse in to Canaan, or the Land of Promise, by Richard Blome, circa 1687 (17.8 x 10.5"). Interesting map of the Holy Land depicting the wandering of the Children of Israel. The map is filled with notations and biblical references, and embellished with tiny vignettes, ships, Jonah and the whale, and a decorative cartouche. The map is still attached to 8 pages of disbound text from a folio-sized bible. The paper on this example has been double red-lined ruled just outside of the plate mark (and text pages), which was a common embellishment for a royal presentation set. Condition: Light scattered foxing with a partially repaired centerfold separation at bottom that is confined to the blank margin.
