"London from the South Side of the Thames", London Illustrated News

This massive and intricately engraved view of Victorian-era London appeared as a supplement to the February 9, 1861 edition of Illustrated London News. Engraved by Robert Loudan after Thomas Sulman, an architectural draftsman who specialized in birds-eye city views, it is an extremely detailed panorama of the city. Thousands of buildings are depicted, and sites of interest are illustrated including Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and St. Paul's Cathedral. The Thames is choked with vessels, and several bridges are shown including London, Westminster, Blackfriars, and Waterloo bridges. Horse-drawn carriages and people fill the streets, capturing the hustle and bustle of city life. Title appears in fancy lettering beneath the view.

Issued folding with minor foxing at top right, a few tiny splits at fold intersections, and a fold separation confined to the bottom blank margin. There are light extraneous creases adjacent to the folds.
