A. History of Cartography, by Leo Bagrow and R.A. Skelton, published 1964 (7.8 x 10.9"). Revised and enlarged by R.A. Skelton. In this fascinating book, the author examines the maps of various periods and cultures, from early antiquity to the 18th century, putting them into historical perspective in his clear account of their evolution. This important book includes a List of Cartographers, containing 1500 names, and an extensive bibliography. 312 pp, 22 color plates, 116 b/w plates, plus 76 illustrations in the text. Hardbound in beige cloth and gilt titling and decoration on front and spine, with an illustrated dust jacket. Includes a cardboard slipcase. Condition: Contents and covers tight. The dust jacket is sunned along the spine and has minor shelf wear, a small abrasion on the spine, and minor scattered foxing. The slipcase is sunned with light shelf wear.

B. New Found Lands - Maps in the History of Exploration, by Peter Whitfield, published 1998 (9.0 x 11.8"). This lavishly illustrated account of the history of exploration concentrates on the idea of the map as an intellectual account of the expanding world, encompassing geography, technology, power, and imagination. Hardbound with gilt title on the spine and an illustrated dust jacket. 200pp with index, 150 illustrations, 100 in color. Condition: Contents and covers tight. Dust jacket has minor shelf wear.

C. Five Centuries of Map Printing, by David Woodward, published 1975 (8.4 x 10.9"). A series of essays compiled and edited by Woodward. These essays stem from lectures comprising the Third Series of Kenneth Nebenzahl, Jr., Lectures in the History of Cartography at the Newberry Library (1972). The authors, all renowned in the field of cartography, provide an excellent treatise of the various printing techniques used in map making, from woodcut to offset lithography. 177 pp, color frontispiece & 59 monochrome illustrations. Soft illustrated covers. Condition: Contents tight with a book plate on the front inner cover. There is minor shelf wear and a hint of toning along the edges of the covers.
