This rare, petite school atlas was intended for young children who had just mastered reading and writing. It contains a total of 8 single-page plates including maps of the world in two hemispheres, North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Also includes a solar system plate at the back of the 82 page volume. 16 mo. with gray stiff paper wrappers. These Cummings "First Lessons" geographies are unusual on the market, with no copies containing the Hallowell imprint in OCLC or in historical auction records over the last 30 years.
Overall light toning and occasional scattered foxing in the text (not in the plates). There is a rust spot in the center of the solar system plate. Front cover is damp stained with some loss at lower left and spine.
