This fascinating lot includes four French sheets from the early 18th century that depict various aspects of Persian culture. The first three sheets are by Chatelain and include descriptive French text. The first sheet contains views of monuments and tombs of Persian kings. On the second sheet, there are four views, two showing the sepulchers of kings, one detailing a large mosque, and one illustrating a caravanserai (a type of roadside inn in the region). The third sheet focuses on the varieties in Persian fashion. The uncommon final sheet was engraved by by Johann Adan Delsenbach for the French edition of Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach's Entwurff Einer Historischen Architectur. It shows a bustling scene outside the grand palace Ali Qapu and a cross-section and view of Khaju Bridge, both located in Isfahan.
