A. [Disbound] Six Maps of the Stars, by SDUK Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, published 1831, black & white (13.7 x 16.2"). This matching set of steel engraved celestial charts was produced by W. Newton from the catalogue of the Astronomical Society and revised by Rev. William Rutter Dawes. The six charts include two circumpolar and four centered on the solstices and equinoxes. They are presented on the gnomonic projection and include all the stars up to the sixth magnitude, or those that can been seen with the naked eye. The maps show the influence of both Pardies and Flamsteed. The geocentric constellations are shown in allegorical forms that were designed by W. B. Clarke, engraved by J. & C. Walker and published by Baldwin & Cradock. Included with the charts is the title page. Reference: Kanas #6.4.4.6. Condition: Light to moderate scattered foxing and minor toning. (B+)

B. [3 Untitled Celestial Charts], by SDUK Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, dated 1830, hand color (10.5 x 10.9"). These three charts are nearly identical to three of the above charts, however these were published by Charles Knight. Condition: Two of the sheets are clean and bright while the third has minor toning and soiling. (A)

C. , by Martinet, circa 1762, hand color (18.0 x 11.7"). This sheet depicts the astronomical measurement device known as the Gnomon of Saint-Sulpice, located in Paris. Columns of text flank the image explaining the difference between planets and stars, as well as giving a description of the sun. Condition: Watermarked paper with minor toning along the centerfold, a few spots of foxing, and an archivally repaired centerfold separation that just crosses the neatline at bottom. (B+)
