"Mappemonde Historique", Renouard, Paul
Period: 1820 (circa)
Color: Hand Color
23.7 x 18.7 inches
60.2 x 47.5 cm
This thematic map is very representative of the new style of maps at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The mapmaker discarded all decorative elements in favor of extensive explanation notes, both within the map and in the lengthy text below the chart. It is also unusual for its placement of the western hemisphere on the right. It was engraved by Alexander Moisy.
An attractive example with a few tiny spots and a 1.5" fold separation at bottom that has been closed on verso with archival tape.
