This is the title page to the last Dutch edition of Linschoten's Itinerario, published in Amsterdam by Cloppenburg. The sheet shows an Indian and African maiden paying tribute to the personification of Asia at top. A dramatic scene of a large army led by a mahout and his huge elephant fills a cartouche below the title. Linschoten's work is one of the most important early accounts of India, the East Indies, and the Portuguese colonies in Africa and South America.
