This small but "handy" atlas was designed for convenience so that "it may be kept on a writing-table or mantel-shelf for ready consultation." The atlas features 76 full-page color plates of maps around the world that have been tipped in to facilitate viewing. The plates include the solar system, 4 world maps, 2 polar maps, 23 maps pertaining to Europe, 14 maps of Asia, 4 maps of Africa, 15 maps of North America, 4 maps of South America, and 9 maps of Australia and the South Pacific Ocean. There is particular emphasis on the British Empire, including a map showing British possessions around the world. The atlas also contains geographical statistics of countries around the world, including information on area, population, exports, and military strength, as well as an extensive 56-page index. Hardbound in maroon cloth with gilt title on spine.
The interior is clean and bright. The front free endpaper and title page are beginning to detach. The binding is somewhat loose with the front and back hinges reinforced with paper tape. Covers and spine show minor wear.
