This complete historical atlas includes numerous maps of the world and regional views on twelve sheets from ancient times, the Middle Ages, and the modern era. It includes two world maps on a Mercator Projection showing the extent of discoveries in 1491 and 1550, as well as a reprint of Ortelius' world map of 1587. The maps are tipped in with blank versos and gilt edges, which is uncommon for this time period. Includes 4 pages of explanatory text. Published by Librairie Hachette in Paris. Folio, hardbound in red, blind-stamped cloth with gilt title on spine.
