This beautiful panoramic view depicts Wanganui, a town along the southwestern coast of the North Island. The view is accompanied by an article discussing the Maori War in the area. Now known as the New Zealand Wars, the Maori Wars were a series of conflicts that began in 1845 between the indigenous Maori and the New Zealand government over land disputes. The conflict escalated in 1860, shortly before this view was published. The view was engraved by G. Marchant and G. Fannin of the Crown Lands Office in Wellington. On a full page of English text measuring 10.9 x 15.7". Published on April 17, 1869.
