This fine reproduction of the first and only English edition of the Mercator-Hondius-Janssonius Atlas is from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Series of Atlases in Facsimile Fourth Series - Volume II. Originally published in 1636, the English edition was part of an effort by Henricus Hondius and his brother-in-law Joannes Janssonius to modernize and expand the atlas, as well as to bring out editions in vernacular languages. The book spans two volumes and includes 195 maps. It features a 23-page introduction by R.A. Skelton tracing the history of the publication, with a number of illustrations. Published in Amsterdam by Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Ltd. Hardbound in burgundy cloth with gilt insignia on front covers and title on the spines, with beige dust jackets.
