This lot includes five plates of primates, birds, and fish seen in Western Africa. The depiction of the chimpanzee and ape are especially interesting as they possess a human quality (most prints of the time were based on second-hand knowledge, making an accurate drawing quite challenging). The fish appear to be quite menacing! Published in the fourth volume of Histoire Generale des Voyages.
