Period: 1730 (circa)
Color: Hand Color
23.6 x 19.3 inches
59.9 x 49 cm
A fine large map showing all of Italy, including Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica, the surrounding parts of France and the Balkans, and a portion of North Africa. It is based on the geography of Guillaume Delisle and the observations of the astronomer Riccioli. The map is filled with detail and decorated with an ornate title cartouche alluding to the Catholic Church, with a cherub wearing a cardinal's miter.
A fine impression with original color in the map and later coloring in the cartouche. There is a professionally repaired centerfold separation that enters 1" into map at bottom.
