This fascinating manuscript sheet represents the education and memories of a French student. The sheet centers on a double-hemisphere world map, with the western hemisphere shown on the right. There are a remarkable number of place names noted for a map of this size. Surrounding the map are a sheet of music, a botanical drawing, a sketch of an old farmhouse, a French proverb, a business receipt, the symbol of the student's boarding school, and an English poem. Finely drawn in pen and ink with outline color on the map and watercolor on the botanical. Signed and dated at lower left.
